An answer to your questions
It is best to consult an orthodontist for the first time at the age of 8 years. At a young age, we can already perform treatments to prepare the teeth for later orthodontic treatment—for example, the widening of the upper jaw. The earlier we can do such interventions, the better the results will be. However, this preparation sits outside the budget for standard orthodontic treatment, and you are attached to specific conditions to receive reimbursement: including starting the procedure before age 9.
The actual ortho treatment (with brackets) cannot start until all the permanent teeth are present. That time varies from patient to patient.
Soft drinks, including fruit juice, are acidic and sweet and attack the enamel. When you don't wear brackets, you can use your tongue to neutralize the roughness on your teeth. But once you wear brackets, this becomes impossible. The acid continues to penetrate between the brackets and the gums. White spots can appear if you don't brush properly.
Therefore, it's best to follow these guidelines:
- Drink fewer soft drinks; try limiting them to weekends and parties
- It's better to drink soft drinks in one go rather than taking many small sips over a long period
- Never drink soft drinks before going to bed
- It's better to drink soft drinks with a straw
