Do’s & Don’ts after getting brackets on your teeth
#1 Right after the brackets are placed
It’s important not to eat or drink anything during the first hour after your brackets are fitted. This helps ensure they bond properly to your teeth. For the first 24 hours, avoid hot drinks like tea or soup - unless you allow them to cool down first.
#2 Eating with brackets
What should you avoid eating?
Certain foods are best avoided after getting your brackets, as they may loosen the wire or brackets. Think chocolate, sweets, caramel, or nuts.
What can you still enjoy?
Fortunately, there are still plenty of safe options. Crisps, chips, biscuits, ice creams, or chocolate spread on bread are all perfectly fine.
What should you be careful with?
Avoid biting directly into hard foods such as apples or carrots. Instead, cut them into small pieces before eating. The same goes for crusty rolls or other chewy items. Also, be cautious with acidic drinks like fizzy drinks or fruit juices - limit these to once a week and preferably use a straw to minimise contact between the acid and your teeth.

#3 Oral hygiene with brackets
Maintaining good oral hygiene is more important than ever. When your brackets are fitted, we’ll provide clear instructions on how to brush properly. You’ll also receive a cleaning kit with all the tools you need to keep your mouth clean and healthy, such as an interdental brush and a tufted brush.
Even with braces, it's essential to continue attending your regular dental check-ups once or twice a year. This ensures your teeth remain healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment.

#4 What to do if a bracket comes loose
If a bracket comes loose but doesn’t bother you, there’s no need to book an extra appointment. We can easily reattach it during your next routine visit.
#5 Dealing with pain after the treatment
It’s completely normal to experience some sensitivity or discomfort in the first few days. That’s a sign your brackets are doing their job. If the pain becomes too intense, you can safely take a painkiller.
By following the above tips, you’ll be able to care for your brackets properly and adjust more easily to your new situation.
